Northborough – The saying goes that food is the best way to a man’s heart, so it is fitting that two men’s groups – the Northborough Dull Men’s Club and the Northborough Knights of Columbus – joined forces to deliver a new freezer to the Northborough Food Pantry March 6.

Apart from being men’s groups, they have one thing in common – Bernie Gillon. He is a member of both groups.

“The Dull Men’s Club normally gives the food pantry $100 every quarter,” shared Gillon. “At a recent [Knights’] meeting Tom [Lowe, Deputy Grand Knight] made a motion to buy a freezer so he could contribute more meat to the pantry.”

“I suggested we collaborate with the Dull Men’s Club. It was a natural fit for both organizations and it was the right thing to do to help the community,” Gillon said.

“We appreciate all that the Northborough residents and organizations do for our food pantry. We have a very generous community,” stated Director Karen Scopetski of The Northborough Food Pantry.

The Knights of Columbus Saint Augustine Council in Northborough draws over 100 members from St. Bernadette’s and St. Rose of Lima parishes. Their motto is “In service to One, In service to All.”

The Northborough chapter of the Dull Men’s Club, founded by Gillon, is one of three American chapters, all of which are based in Massachusetts. They are, as they say, “born to be mild.”

The club meets Wednesdays, 10 – 11 a.m., at the Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Road.

According to the Senior Center website, “It is a place where dull men share thoughts and experiences, free from glitz and glam, free from pressures to be in and trendy… We are not boring and we are not grumpy. Our favorite flavor is vanilla and our favorite color is gray.”

“We like to say ‘We’re dull, but we’re sharp,’” Gillon said. However, the topics of religion and politics are strictly off limits.
