Luis ChavesHudson – Luis Loura Chaves, 77, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 2, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Maria Virginia (Monteiro) Chaves.

Luis was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, one four children of the late Joao and Maria Gloria (Loura) Chaves. While growing up in Santa Maria, he was trained in the family craft of shoemaking. Later Luis immigrated to Hudson in the late 60’s where he resided until he passed.

Luis worked for many years for ACT Corp. and Data General in the factories until he eventually retired. He enjoyed traveling on cruise ships and vacationing with his family in the cape. Luis enjoyed meeting new people and was never at a loss for words. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Maria Virginia (Monteiro) Chaves, e is also survived by his daughter, Gloria M. Curtis and her husband Michael of Hudson; two grandchildren, Maxwell and Bennett Curtis; two siblings, Antonio Chaves and his wife Maria F. of Hudson and Maria Morais and her husband Arlindo of Portugal; two aunts, Filomena Chaves and her husband Joaquin and Laura Tavares; a sister-in-law, Maria C. Chaves; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Jose Chaves.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, May 4, from 4-7 p.m., at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, followed by interment at Saint Michael Cemetery.
