Danielson, Conn. – Richard M. Trainor, 76, of Danielson, Conn., formerly a long-time resident of Shrewsbury and Worcester, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, Conn. His loving wife of 32 years, Judith A. (Kuusisto) Trainor, predeceased him in April 2000.

Richard is survived by a son, Bryan Trainor of Brooklyn, Conn.; a daughter, Deborah A. Trainor of Danielson, Conn.; two sisters, Melanie Desmarais and her husband Henry of Leicester and Mary Remington of Worcester; two grandsons, Noah and Owen Trainor; and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Therese Addison-Riggs, predeceased him.

Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Gaudette) Trainor, and graduated from Saint Stephen High School, where, in 1958, he was part of the high school’s State Championship Winning Baseball Team.

Richard and his wife Judith lived in Worcester for several years where they started their family. They later moved to Leicester and then Shrewsbury in 1983. He moved to Danielson shortly after his wife’s death, to be closer to his children and grandchildren.  His family brought him great happiness and he was so proud that his grandsons are enrolled at Marianapolis Preparatory School in Connecticut.

He had been a Loss Prevention Supervisor for over 20 years at UPS in Shrewsbury, before retiring. While at UPS he organized the first UPS District Softball Tournament in Worcester County.

Richard loved to stay active and played golf and softball, along with volunteering for the Friends of Assisi Food Pantry, for many years after his retirement.

Memorial calling hours for Richard will be held Friday, May 18, from 9-11 a.m., with his funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Interment beside his wife will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Friends of Assisi Food Pantry, 77 Water St., Danielson, CT 06239 or at www.friendsofassisi.com.
