Maria MoraisHudson – Maria Jose (Chaves Rego) Morais, 81, of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday, May 26, 2018. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Anotonio Morais, who predeceased her Feb. 18, 2005.

Maria was born and raised on the island of Santa Maria in Azores, Portugal a daughter of the late Jose and Evangelina (Chaves) Rego. She immigrated to Hudson with her husband Antonio in 1965, where she resided until she passed. Maria worked for Thomas Taylor Company and later as a Quality Control Inspector for Digital Corp until she retired. She was a long time active member at Saint Michael Parish, where she was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society, which her husband help found in Hudson.

True to her rich Portuguese heritage, Maria was an excellent cook and baker, whose delicious meals were often enjoyed by her entire family. She was also a talented seamstress and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Maria’s biggest passion was her doll collection which she cherished and took great care of. Most of all Maria loved spending time with her close friends and family.

Maria is survived by her son, Mario Chaves Morais of Hudson; four grandchildren, Kevin Morais, Katrina Morais, Kris Morais and Krystal Morais; her great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Vidal “Vic” Morais, and her siblings, Maria Orteja, Natalia Resendes and Manuel Rego.

A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 30, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, immediately followed by a procession to Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, for an 11 a.m. Celebration Mass of Christian Burial and interment at Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson.
