Tradebe Treatment and Recycling of Northborough requests change in site assignment

Northborough BOH to hold public hearing regarding hazardous waste storage requestBy Melanie Petrucci, Senior Community Reporter

Northborough – The Northborough Board of Health (BOH) will hold a public hearing Tuesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Room at Town Hall, 63 Main St., to consider a request from Tradebe Treatment and Recycling of Northborough for a modification to its current site assignment.

Tradebe is a hazardous waste storage transfer facility located on approximately 2.75 acres at 345 West Main St. According to documentation the company provided to the BOH, Tradebe “provides hazardous waste management services to customers predominantly throughout the New England region. Tradebe Treatment and Recycling of Northborough, LLC has been providing industrial, municipal, and federal clients with services for the cleanup, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste for over 25 years.”

Currently the company is permitted for storage of about 40,000 gallons of hazardous waste in above-ground tanks with transfer off-site for treatment, recycling and disposal. If the modification is approved, the company would become a “5-day Transfer Facility”, at which unopened containers will be transferred from truck to truck in a roofed containment area.

There will be no consolidation, processing or outside storage, according to the proposal.

The new facility would operate, if approved, from Monday through Sunday, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Abutters and other interested residents who would like to speak at the public hearing must first  file a written request to do so with the BOH no later than Wednesday, June 6, 11 a.m.

Written comments will be accepted by the BOH no later than June 6, at 11 a.m. as well.

Documentation of the proposal, as well as hearing participation regulations, are posted on the town’s website at http://www.town.northborough.ma.us/Pages/NorthboroughMA_BOH/tradebe.

Documents are also available for review during regular business hours at the Northborough Board of Health Office at Town Hall and at the Northborough Free Library, 34 Main St.
