Hudson – Jose “Joe” D. Sousa, 86, of Hudson, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born July 17, 1931 in Santa Maria, Azores, Santo Espisito, to the late Maria (Resendes) Sousa and Bernadino Sousa. Growing up on a farm, Joe loved riding horses, caring for animals and looking after the farm. Joe loved being with family and taking walks.
Joe came to America in 1967, working for S & F Concrete in Hudson for over 10 years, retiring due to illness.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Maria G. (Melo) Sousa of Hudson; his two children, Charlie Sousa of Hudson and Maria Sousa and her husband Paul Kerrigan of Hudson; his three grandchildren, Michael Baker and his companion Cazmir O’Lougghlin of Hudson, Paul Baker and his companion Mylissa Tellier of Hudson, JoAnna Monette of Clinton, and Frank J. Jenkins of Maine. Joe also leaves behind his five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Riley, Trevor, Savannah and Jaden; his siblings, Angelo Sousa and his wife Ezaltina of California, Maria Chaves and her husband Jose of Hudson, Maria Inez Cabral and her husband John of Hudson, Deolinda Leonardo and her husband Frank of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was also predeceased by his siblings, Antonio Sousa, John Sousa, and Adelaide Luz.
Joe was loved greatly and will be missed. ’Til We Meet Again.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 – Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
A calling hour will be held Monday, June 11, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, followed by a procession to Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family requests donations be made to help pay for his funeral expenses.
