Henry J. WolikShrewsbury – Henry J. Wolik, 89, a 55-year resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully in his home Aug. 26, 2018.

Henry was born and raised in Maynard, one of five children of Frank and Dorothea (Maciora) Wolik. He graduated from Maynard High School, where he was a standout football player.

Henry, a member of the “Greatest Generation,” joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving his country proudly. He returned home and then began a long career as a machinist for several companies, including, Lund’s, Tufts Machine, and Hudson Broach before retiring. Not one to just sit around, he then accepted a part-time position with the grounds department of the Worcester Country Club.

In 1962, Henry married Marie F. McLaughlin and they moved to Shrewsbury, where they raised their family and began a 55-year life together.

Henry is survived by his wife, Marie, and his four children, Catherine M. Vaucher and her partner John McEnaney of Danvers, Margaret M. Boatwright of West Boylston, Anne M. Snell and her husband Christopher of Worcester, and Michael F. Wolik and his wife Ryan of Cottage Grove, Oregon, as well as six grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Frances and Sophia, and two brothers, Chester and Frank “Bobby” Wolik, predeceased him.

Henry was a member of St. Anne’s Church, and the Hudson Lodge of Elks. He loved reading, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed long distance running, backpacking, and mountain climbing.

A period of calling hours will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, from 9-10:30 a.m., in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, before proceeding in procession to St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury, where his Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
