Northborough Rec recognizes support of Fidrych Foundation

To the Editor:

We would like to thank Ann and Jessica Fidrych and the Fidrych Foundation for their very generous donation to Northborough Recreation in support of sports programming for kids with disabilities. The Fidrych Foundation has been the largest supporter and contributor to our sports programs for kids ages 5 – 22 with disabilities since we started five years ago. Originally, we started the program with Challenger Little League. Since then, we have grown significantly. We now run three sports a year: baseball, soccer and basketball. On average we have 100 – 120 participants and buddies per year participating in our special needs sports programs.

Our success is due to all of the hard work of the coaches, volunteers and the Fidrych Foundation. We want to personally thank Ann and Jess for being so supportive of this amazing program. Without them and their foundation we would not have been able to grow this program into the success it is today.

We plan to use their donation to grow all three sports and reach out to other communities in order to increase awareness about our programming and get more kids with disabilities involved with sports. For those of you not aware, the Fidrych Foundation is a nonprofit public charity. Their mission is to enhance the lives of children and adults with disabilities and/or special needs through and with a focus on sports and sports education. Each year they raise funds at their annual softball tournament and target local agencies that make a difference in the lives of area children and their families.

Please note the Challenger Program will holding a Cornhole Tournament Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Texas BBQ, 309 Main St., at 1 p.m. Please sign up today for a team today. All the proceeds go to the Challenger program. More info can be found on our website: www.northboroughrecreation.com.
