A mother’s plea for free, full-day kindergarten in Northborough

To the Editor:

I would like everyone to be aware that in Northborough you have to pay to send your children to full-day kindergarten. I find this totally absurd and discriminatory. For those that can, it is still a burden. I am a stay-at-home mom who works sun-up to sundown (in the middle of the night, too) taking care of my family. Moms are busy doing diapers and cleaning up toys and by the time kindergarten rolls around you are blindsided by the fact you have to pay thousands of dollars for kindergarten. My children deserve to have a good education, as do ALL children. There are numerous studies to show the advantages to full-day kindergarten. Why do our schools not make it accessible to every family? We are proud of our Northborough schools. We are proud of our teachers. We are a part of a network of families, a community, that cares about our children’s education. All children should have access to free school.
