Westborough – As his family, colleagues, and town officials looked on, Westborough Firefighter Chris Dubois was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of Group 3. The ceremony was held Jan. 8 at the Westborough Fire Department headquarters.

Fire Chief Patrick Purcell greeted the guests, noting that seven very qualified candidates had gone through the process of applying for the lieutenants’ position.

“It’s a very comprehensive process, involving studying over 2,000 pages,” he said.

The next steps involved written exams, outside review from an oversight committee and the finally another interview, he added.

Becoming a lieutenant is an opportunity to be a mentor and coach – “a lot is demanded of the position,” Purcell said.

Purcell also noted that a firefighter’s duties were also stressful for families as well.

“We thank them for their support,” he said.

Dubois has been with the department since 2008, serving on both groups 2 and 3. As his wife, Josee looked on his two young daughters, Jacqueline, 8 and Joceline, 3, shared in the honors of pinning his new insignia onto his uniform.

“Thank you all for coming out tonight,” Dubois told those gathered. “Thank you to my family and thank to the Chief, [colleagues] and administrators for your support.”
