Shrewsbury – In a recent conversation, Dr. Luciana Petto Messina, DDS, of Songbird Dental, reflected on her boutique dental practice, located at 555 Main St., in the center of Shrewsbury. In her 25 years practicing dentistry, she has been committed to providing her patients with the personalized care that they have come to expect. She has practiced in Shrewsbury since 2011.
Messina recently answered some questions regarding her practice.
What would you like our readers to know about your practice?
“Songbird Dental, now in our third year, is growing through word of mouth referrals. Our team of five women includes a dental assistant, a dental hygienist and a patient coordinator,” Messina said. “To accommodate our growth, we recently added another part-time hygienist.”
How did you become interested in dentistry?
“I thought about becoming a dentist because I’ve always wanted to help people and I liked working with my hands. I underwent some extensive orthodontia when I was younger and became fascinated by dentistry.”
What is your specialty?
“My practice’s focus is general dentistry. I provide a variety of services for all age ranges. What my practice is unable to do we provide a smooth transition for referrals to like-minded professionals, personally vetted.”
What sets you apart from other dental practices?
“Since my practice is small, we are able to focus on individualized care. We take the time to get to know our patients, their families and their interests. They are not rushed and are made to feel at ease from start to finish. My patients value this.”
What trends are hot right now?
Messina said that current trends continue to focus on implants, cosmetic and teeth whitening.
“We stay current with what is going on in today’s dentistry. I am constantly attending continuing education courses across the country, and participate in a study group through Spear Education.”
What trends do you see in the next few years?
“Digital dentistry is the way of the future. This includes the use of scans rather than impressions and it allows for better communication between our office and the lab. We achieve better and more accurate results that way.”
What special touches do you provide for your patients?
“Apart from our personal service, we provide a warm and comfortable setting for our patients. Our waiting room is decorated seasonally and we always have fresh flowers. We are positioned well in the center of Shrewsbury, with easy access and have ample parking.”
Messina also noted that she is grateful to the community and her patients who have helped the practice to grow.
