Shrewsbury – Helen (Cramer) Sooy, 87, passed away July 13, 2019. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Florence, her brother, James and sister, Edith.
Helen leaves behind her husband, John, and their four sons, Gary, Robert, Jeffrey and John; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Arnold of New Jersey, and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in West Creek, N.J. in 1931. She grew up in Tuckerton, N.J., graduating from Tuckerton High School, class of 1949. The oldest daughter of a South Jersey Oysterman, as a young girl she learned to love family, the Lord and picking crabs.
Helen took great joy in raising her four boys with beloved husband John, married for 69 years, living in the same Shrewsbury home for 64 years.
Helen and John were long time members of First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury where Helen taught Sunday school, actively raising her family in the church.
Though born and raised a true Jersey girl, Helen enthusiastically embraced life in New England enjoying lobster, the Red Sox and picking apples, returning to the Jersey shore for family vacations at the beach.
After marrying, Helen worked for General Electric in Erie, Pa.; GTE in Westborough, and FDIC in Franklin.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Helen will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.
Helen was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
