Marlborough – “Such a great morning for Team Fox and our families,” exclaimed Kelly Raiano Maccioli after the second successful mini-golf fundraiser at Marlborough’s Trombetta’s Farm for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Maccioli, whose mother, Carol Raiano, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease eight years ago, has made it a personal mission to raise money for research. By joining up with Team Fox, every cent raised goes directly to research to find the cure for the devastating disease.
“I’m always amazed to see not only the impact Parkinson’s disease has on the community, but also the support that comes from families, friends and local businesses to help us find a cure,” Macciolo said. “I am incredibly grateful to everyone that donated, sponsored a hole on the course, and came to putt and hang out with us this morning.”
This year’s Putt Putt for Parkinson’s event was even more successful than last year’s with nearly 100 golfers making the rounds at the popular indoor mini-golf course. Kristen McManus enjoyed the morning with her husband, Dave, and daughters Lainey and Julia.
“I’ve known the Raiano family for years, since high school, actually, and my father-in-law, Bill, also has Parkinson’s disease,” she explained. “Dave has been actively raising money for research as well… he hiked the Grand Canyon and did the Spartan Run. It’s just a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, and we were happy to come support Kelly….”
There is currently no known cure for Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, nor is there a definitive way to test or diagnose the disease. There are an estimated 10 million people battling Parkinson’s throughout the world, with the number continuing to grow. Last year, Maccioli, with the help of friends and family, raised over $12,000 through various fundraising events, including her participation in the Chicago Marathon wearing the Team Fox bib. This year, her personal goal is to run 2,019 miles, and she is on track to do just that.
