Shrewsbury – Pleasant early-autumn temperatures Sept 29 contributed to another successful Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival Parade. Honored as grand marshal, town historian Michael Perna Jr. rode the 1.1-mile downtown route in a BMW M3 convertible with his wife, Sandra.

In addition to local Special Olympics athletes and coaches, parade units included town and state officials, and representatives of Scout troops, schools, youth sports teams, nonprofit organizations and businesses. While some participants marched, others traveled on decorated floats. Named first-place float for the fourth consecutive year was the Shrewsbury-based India Society of Worcester.

Parade spectators over age 90 and their guests were treated to a special viewing area stationed in front of Town Hall. Following the parade, they attended an Over 90 Tribute Tea at the senior center with entertainment provided by singer Joe Cariglia.
