Shrewsbury – As we commemorate Veterans Day, we might take a moment to look back to the World War II years. During the war, Tony Frostholm, shown in our photograph, who ran the Town Diner on Maple Avenue, took the time to put together small photo albums each containing views of well-known scenes around town.
He gathered the addresses of military members deployed all over the world and mailed an album to each of them. The albums, one of which belonged to the late Howard Allen (who served in the U. S. Army during the war) and recently “surfaced”, had a hand-written “Greetings” on the cover.
We can only imagine, in those wartime days before computers and cell phones, how much these little reminders of home must have meant to our service men and women serving in places far from home.
