Westborough – The Westborough Economic Development Committee (EDC) approved a grant of $1825 for the Westborough Cork and Grain at its Jan. 7 meeting. The funds will help the store, which sells wine, craft beer, spirits and a range of food products purchase a new cooler and a wall shelving unit. That will allow the store, owner Dan Lepore said, to change its layout, putting companion products near each other and help increase “impulse sales.” The store is located at 2 West Main St., on the rotary.
The grant was awarded as part of the EDC’s Small Business Grant Assistance Program to provide financial assistance to businesses and to stimulate investment in vacant or underutilized commercial space in the town of Westborough.
In other news, it was announced that Katelyn O’Brien had resigned in mid-December as EDC coordinator to accept a position in Dover. O’Brien had been with the EDC since early 2018. Town Manager Kristi Williams said the position will remain vacant until the town undergoes a staffing study.
The EDC will be holding its sixth annual celebratory event on Friday, Jan. 31. The event honors a number of Westborough businesses including Best Expansion, Company to Watch, Innovation and more. Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will be the keynote speaker. The event will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Westborough.
