Town Meeting date may change after town officials meet tonight, March 12

Westborough – Town Moderator John Arnold will be holding office hours Tuesday, March 17 and Monday, March 23 at the Public Library to help prepare voters for the Town Meeting which is scheduled to begin Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m in the Westborough High School auditorium.

Town officials are meeting tonight, March 12, to discuss the town’s strategy for preparing for a possible coronavirus outbreak. There is a possibility that the Town Meeting will be rescheduled but there are also other possible options to hold the meeting that day while still keeping voters safe. We will share more information after tonight’s meeting.

The Annual Town Meeting votes on budgets for all Town departments, capital spending by the Town, zoning bylaws, and other articles on the warrant. This year’s warrant also has articles related to land acquisitions, improvements to the Town’s water and sewer systems, and other topics of interest to voters. The complete warrant is posted online at the Town’s website: https://www.town.westborough.ma.us/sites/westboroughma/files/news/2020_atm_warrant_posted.pdf

Arnold will be holding office hours in the Meeting Room of the Public Library to help voters prepare for the Town Meeting on:

  • Tuesday, March 17 – 7-8:45 p.m.
  • Monday, March 23 – 7-8:45 p.m.

With its Open Town Meeting form of government, the Town Meeting is Westborough’s legislature and every voter acts as a legislator. Voters are encouraged to attend these office hours to learn more about the Town Meeting process, how they can prepare to participate, and the topics that will be coming up for vote at the Town Meeting. Please bring your questions! All are welcome whether you’re new to Town Meeting or an experienced Town Meeting voter.

These open forums are not a substitute for the deliberations that happen at the Town Meeting. Instead, these meetings are intended as an informal review and discussion of what the voters can expect to act upon at the Town Meeting and how every voter can participate.
