Hudson – Select Board members joined a chorus of others, Feb. 22, in celebrating State Rep. Kate Hogan’s recent promotion to the Statehouse leadership role of Speaker Pro Tempore.

More than a decade after she first won her seat as representative of the 3rd Middlesex District, which includes Hudson, Hogan has remained an ally of community leaders, those leaders say.

“It’s nice to see people who are known for working hard get appointed to a position like that,” Select Board Member John Parent said at the board’s meeting, Feb. 22.

With her promotion, Hogan remains Hudson’s representative. Now, though, she’s also got a formal seat at the table with the powerful leadership team of House Speaker Ronald Mariano.

The leadership team controls key behind-the-scenes aspects of state government, scheduling legislative votes and determining who sits on key committees that review and make changes to bills that colleagues file.

This promotion makes Hogan the third most powerful member in the more than 150-person House of Representatives.

“She deserves our congratulations,” Parent said, Feb. 22.

Online, hundreds of others agreed, including Hudson’s Acting Planning Director Kristina Johnson, Former Police Chief Michael Burks, School Committee Member Michelle Tousignant Dufour, and State Rep. Danielle Gregoire of Marlborough, who all shared sentiments on Facebook.

“I will do my best to articulate the interests, concerns, and issues of my constituents and will seek to build consensus and a path forward from the pandemic to recovery,” Hogan wrote in a Facebook post celebrating the news.
