Joseph P. McGuinnWorcester – Joseph P. “Joe” McGuinn, 30, formerly of Shrewsbury, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital on March 9, 2021 after years of struggling with substance use disorder. He was the beloved son of Edward P. and Kristine K. (Kelly) McGuinn.

He was the brother of Julia R. (Nicholas) and Mary Grace McGuinn (Patrick). He leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Eddie and Mary McGuinn and Bill and Jerry Kelly.

Joe was born in Meadowbrook, Pa., but grew up in Shrewsbury, attending Lilliput Early Childhood Center, Beal Kindergarten, St. Mary’s Elementary School, St. John’s High School, and Shrewsbury High School. He was a valued defensive team member of the hockey teams of

Shrewsbury Youth Hockey, Northstars Select, St. John’s and Shrewsbury High School. Those

who played hockey with him will remember that he took seriously his job of protecting his goalie.

Joe was a natural protector, sticking up for the underdog in any situation. Outgoing and friendly, Joe was the life of any party. He loved laughter, music and was a great dancer. A natural charmer, he won people over with his big smile and his typical “Hey, how ya doin?” greeting. He loved family gatherings the most, especially when he could be with his Philadelphia family and join into the Irish sing-song.

Our family is comforted by the fact that Joe has donated his organs through New England Donor Services. This poem was read during a moment of silence before his donation:

Remember the little boy running

Laughing with delight, the sunlight

On his beautiful face.

Remember the young boy riding

His bike, rushing in from play,

Or giggling at a movie with his family.

Remember the teenager, strong

And moving with the skill

Of a powerful athlete.

Remember the young man,

Who loved and was loved,

Who bravely saved others.

Remember him in your heart.

Remember him forever.

With every breath, remember him.

-Aunt Michele
