Shrewsbury – It is with great sadness that the family of Debra L. (Hassett) Schofield, 68 of Shrewsbury, announce her unexpected passing at home after a long-fought battle with cancer on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gary F. Schofield and 2 children, Kerrie L. Schofield and her husband John Malvarose of Worcester and her Son, Brian M. Schofield of California. 2 grandchildren, Sienna and Luke Schofield of California who were loved beyond measure, 2 siblings, Sandra Genduso of Auburn and Michael Hassett of Webster, and many nieces and nephews.
“Deb” was predeceased by her parents William P. Hassett Sr. (2004), Shirley F. (Gregory) Hassett (2011), and 2 siblings: William P. Hassett Jr. (2007) and Patti-Jo (Hassett) Green (2011).
She was born in Worcester, graduating from Leicester High School before moving to Shrewsbury in 1980. Deb loved sunbathing, the beach and vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard. She enjoyed the casino, scratch tickets, and brightening your day with a surprise visit or greeting card. She loved all Boston sports, but her greatest love of all were her 2 beloved Grandchildren, Sienna & Luke.
Deb was fiercely independent, private, strong willed, compassionate, empathetic, dependable, generous, protective, and thoughtful. All of which shined bright through positions that served her community well, as a successful Real Estate Sales Agent or helping disabled adults achieve daily tasks at the former state-run Glavin Center, whether within the Shrewsbury Public school system or as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to represent the best interests of neglected and abused children in a court of law.
Above all, she was a kind and generous woman who was loved greatly and will be very sorely missed by many.
In keeping with Deb’s final wishes there will not be a service or calling hours. Burial will be private at a later date.
