HUDSON – Community members filled the Landing at Hudson Mills on Saturday for a much anticipated “Meet the Mill” market.

Billed as an opportunity to showcase the more than 60 small businesses now operating at the Landing, this event also featured a number of individual vendors.

“Hudson as a community really cares about each other and they love to support small businesses and artists,” organizer Molly Allene told the Community Advocate during the market. “It’s a perfect combination.”

Allene owns Brooklyn + Rye, which describes itself as a woman-owned boutique focused on skincare, body care, wellness and more.

She helped spearhead the organization of this event, rallying other business owners to draw attention to their larger community.

Indeed, the Landing has grown since its renovation as a facility for local businesses. Despite that, Allene said that many in town might not be familiar with the building’s offerings.

“Most people have driven by here for how many years and have no idea that we’re even here,” she said. “This was our opportunity to show the community what we’re all about and to invite them in and to build community with Hudson and the surrounding areas.”

Coinciding with the recent loosening of pandemic restrictions, this early-spring event landed at an ideal time for community engagement, Allene said.

“I think that this is something that Hudson has been craving for a really long time,” she said. “When you mix the pandemic with cabin fever, it turns into something that people really want.”

“We knew that it would be the perfect time for the community to come out,” she continued.

With this successful event now in the rear-view mirror, Allene said she hopes community members will return to the businesses at the Landing.

In the meantime, she noted, business owners hope to continue to share their message and their offerings with Hudson and the region at large.

“We are a tenant-based group that wants to actively represent ourselves to the community and that wants to share what we do with the community,” she said.

The Landing is located at 43 Broad Street in Hudson.
