Shrewsbury – Susan C. (Marsaw) Saunders, 81, of Shrewsbury, passed on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph H. Saunders, in 1987.
She leaves her children: Pamela B. Sklut and her husband Daniel G., of Dunbarton, NH, Deborah R. Walsh, of St. Cloud, FL, Christine L. Besaw and her husband Michael, of Shrewsbury, Mathew S. Saunders and his fiancée Jennifer Rizzi, of Bellingham, Jennifer L. Saunders, and Heather A. Saunders, both of Shrewsbury; her grandchildren: Mark D. Sklut and his wife Amanda, Brian T. Sklut and his wife Erica, Zachary Besaw, Rachel Besaw, Hannah Besaw, and Kacey Walsh; her great-granddaughters: Emilia, Eloise, and Isabella Sklut; her sisters: Patricia LaBranche and Penelope Denechaud; along with many nieces and nephews, whom she adored. Susan was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Peter J. Walsh, in 2016; her sister, Dorcas M. Layport; and her parents, Percy and Mabel (Ballou) Marsaw.
Born, raised, and educated in Worcester, Susan was a graduate of Classical High School. She met and married her beloved Ralph, and the pair settled in Shrewsbury to begin their family. Susan was a wonderful homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother – she loved going all-out in hosting holiday celebrations and creating masterpieces with her cake-decorating skills.
In her free time, Susan enjoyed volunteering at the Glavin Regional Center in Shrewsbury, and was known for being a kind, generous soul.
She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten, by those she knew and loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury Avis Kemp and Olson Scholarship Funds.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
