Richard F. VintonShrewsbury – Richard F. “Dick” Vinton, 90, longtime Shrewsbury resident, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 with his loving family by his side.

He leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Catherine L. (Leahy) Vinton; his four children, Daniel Vinton, Deborah Gallo and her husband John, Karen Guglielmello and her husband Gary, and Richard Vinton and his wife Jeanne; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three nieces. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Elaine (Leask) Vinton; and his brother, William Vinton.

Dick was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and was raised in Shrewsbury, MA. He was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, and later attended Worcester Junior College. Dick proudly served in the U.S, Navy, aboard the command ship, USS Taconic, during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Dick loved to work outdoors and found his niche working as a land surveyor before beginning his very long career with the City of Worcester. He retired from the Department of traffic engineering and began his next chapter with Cathy.

Dick had many interests. He was an avid reader, especially about History. He loved athletics, especially football and baseball and enjoyed coaching and watching his own children play sports. Dick took pride in his yard, creating both beautiful and plentiful gardens. Each summer, he looked forward to a friendly competition with friends for growing the best tomato and zucchini. He loved spending summers on Cape Cod at the family home in Harwichport, and traveling with Cathy on many cruises and international trips.

Services will be private. A private burial with military honors, will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
