WESTBOROUGH – The BORO Sugar Shack in Westborough celebrated Easter early on Saturday with a pair of “candy workshops” at its downtown location.

Drawing guests from multiple area communities, the events saw Sugar Shack staff lead young attendees in decorating gingerbread houses for marshmallow Peep inhabitants.

“It’s totally fun,” said Sugar Shack Store Manager Kristen Wall.

The candy workshops followed a similar mold to a set of holiday gingerbread house decorating events late last year.

“We thought, ‘How fun would it be to be able to do the same thing for Easter?'” Wall said.

The event was a welcome opportunity to bring guests into the Sugar Shack, Wall added, after the recent COVID-19 case surge earlier this year.

It was, likewise, a beneficial part of the facility’s programming, which helps students with special abilities gain work experience and job skills as part of the Westborough Public Schools system.

“It helps our students from the Boro program and our student workers from the Sugar Shack get to be involved and interact with the community even more,” Wall said.

Sugar Shack staff hope to launch additional candy workshop programs in the future.
