Hudson – Joseph S. DiMare, 92, of Hudson, passed away on January 26, 2022 at The Reservoir after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Davis) DiMare who died in 2007. A long-time resident of Hudson and involved in many organizations.
He was born on June 17, 1929, in Brighton, MA. One of 7 children, to the late Mario and Maria (Miola) DiMare from Italy. He grew up in the suburb of Allston and attended Brighton High School. During high school, he paused his education to enlist into the US Coast Guard.
He was 17 when he entered on September 26, 1946 and served as a Radio Operator aboard the USCG Bibb. He served just over 3 years and was honorably discharged.
Joseph had many jobs before and after his service. He repaired televisions in the early days of TV, worked a food service truck before finding his lifetime job(s) at Raytheon. Where he worked on the assembly line and furthered his education, receiving his associates degree from Northeastern University in electrical engineering when he began designing circuit boards. He received patents and awards during his time. And during the race to moon, was one of the many individuals to help the US get to the moon! It was also during his time at Raytheon that he met Ann Davis. They were married April 11, 1959 and had 6 children.
After settling in Hudson, Joseph served in many capacities in the community. He was an auxiliary police officer, a long-time member of the B.P.O. Elks, a small business owner of a Montgomery Ward Catalog store, and the creator of the first all-girls hockey team – the Kittyhawks. He designed the team’s logo and vision of a non-checking mentality.
Joseph coached and led the team from 1972 until the Mid-1980’s. He coached the team to two National Titles. The first at Ecorse, MI in 1976 and again at Lake Placid, NY in 1978.
Joseph is survived by five children Liann DiMare of Wilmington, MA, Mario DiMare of Hudson, MA, Maria Kehn of Clinton, MA, Catharina Hart of Leominster, MA, and Stephen DiMare of Whitinsville, MA, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren and his sisters, Theresa Bentley of Waltham, Maria Sousa of Burlington, and Elena Hammond of Washington, DC.
Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral Mass on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 9:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA followed by a graveside service in St. Michael’ Cemetery.
