MARLBOROUGH – The Marlborough High School varsity softball team evened their win-loss record at 5-5 on Thursday night with a 16-0 victory over Fitchburg.

Sophomore pitcher Carolina Burgos stole the show for the Panthers, pitching a complete game shutout with no walks and two hits.

Burgos tacked on two RBIs with a 3-4 day at the plate.

“This is only her second year but she has progressed a lot,” Head Coach Michaella DaSilva said of Burgos after the game. “…She has improved so much since last year.”

As the team dominated, DaSilva gave her squad props for their continued efforts and sportsmanship.

“To win by a lot or to lose by a lot, it can really show a lot of character and the girls stayed classy even though the score was so drastic” DaSilva said.

As the season continues to progress, the Panthers hope to maintain their second place spot in the Midland Wachusett League.

They’ll next take the field against the Leominster Blue Devils on Monday.
