NORTHBOROUGH – The Algonquin Regional High School baseball team will continue its season   after securing a preliminary round victory in the MIAA Division I State Championship tournament on Saturday.

Ranked 27th overall, the Titans squad defeated Peabody at home in Northborough by a score of 6-3.

They now advance to the Round of 32, where they’ll play St. John’s on Monday in a clash of area rivals.

St. John’s, which secured a BYE in the first round with its 6th overall ranking in MIAA power rankings, will host that playoff contest.

Though now seeking an upset, Algonquin is carrying momentum, tracing a five game win-streak through the regular season, the recent CMADA tournament, and this most recent Peabody game.

Algonquin started that unbeaten stretch on May 23 with a win over St. John’s, securing additional wins before defeating Shrewsbury High School for a CMADA title last Tuesday.

The Titans will take the field in Shrewsbury against the Pioneers at 4 p.m. on Monday.
