Gerald MastroShrewsbury – Gerald “Jerry” Mastro, 89 of Shrewsbury, formerly Worcester, passed away Thursday, July 14th 2022, reuniting with the “love of his life” and wife for 63 years Aldona Mastro who passed away last December 29th.

Jerry is survived by; a son, John G. Mastro of Charlton, a daughter, Nancy A. (Mastro) Norris of London, UK;  three grandchildren, Shanah A. (Mastro) Elliot of Worcester, James Mastro of Auburn, and Elena N. Norris of North Grafton; six great grandchildren, Clark E. Elliot, Grant G. Elliot, Isla N. Sanabria, Benjamin E. Mastro, Jack A. Elliot and A. Gian Sanabria; a sister, Christine (Mastrogiacomo) Riggieri; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  In addition to his love Aldona, and his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Edward P. Norris in 2013, a brother Frank Mastrogiacomo in 1998, and a sister Teresa (Mastrogiacomo) Hamrin in 2004.

Jerry was born in Worcester, a son of Pasquale and Antonetta (Grande) Mastrogiacomo. He graduated from Commerce High, joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving his country proudly aboard the U.S.S. English.

Jerry worked for over 35 years as a truck driver at Carter Rice/Teamsters Local 170, retiring in 1993. In his retirement he was able to travel to Florida for several years, experienced a cruise, and even crossed the pond to visit his daughter in London. He also very much enjoyed just taking short spontaneous trips in New England.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Our Lady of Loreto Parish.  Jerry was a founding member of the Columbus Civic Association and could be found regularly on Friday night and Sunday afternoon, watching sports, and playing cards with his close friends, helping with CCA functions or playing golf as a member of the CCA Golf league.

Jerry enjoyed bowling and had been active in a Friday night league at the former colonial bowling alley. He cherished his children and grandchildren and along with Aldona was always in attendance at her grandchildren’s extracurricular events. He enjoyed the holidays, birthdays and summer vacations on Cape Cod and was always enjoyed a good time wherever he attended. His sense of humor put a smile on many people’s faces.

Calling Hours for Jerry will be on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester; followed by a procession, departing the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery.
