Ann M. CorioShrewsbury – Ann Marie Corio, 78, a lifelong Shrewsbury resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, with the ones she loved gathered at her bedside.

Ann was born in Worcester, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (DeQuatro) Corio. She grew up in Worcester, graduated from the Salter School and earned her bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude from  Assumption College.

Ann Marie  then accepted a position as executive assistant to the Admiral of the U.S. Navy at the Pentagon in Washington DC. She notably was at the Pentagon in 1963 when President John F Kennedy was assassinated. Ann Marie then returned home to work as a residential counselor for the Community HealthLink and lastly as a special education paraprofessional for  both the Shrewsbury and West Boylston School systems before retiring.

Ann is survived by her two sons, Gary M. Samela with whom she lived, and Brian Samela and his wife, Nancy of Altamont, NY; two grandchildren, Lindsay, and Stephen; Her longtime companion James A. Madaio; other extended family members and friends.

Ann was a member of St Anne’s Church. She loved to sing, whether at home, with friends, as a member of the St Anne Church choir or with the Northborough Area Community Chorus. She truly found joy with music. Ann also enjoyed the times she spent with James at the cape, traveling or the moments she could be around her sons and grandchildren. Ann also enjoyed many years with her beloved golden retriever, Jake.

Friends are invited to gather for calling hours, Monday, July 25th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, July 26, from the funeral home with a procession to St Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon. Burial will follow in St John’s Cemetery.
