Janet JonesSouthborough – Janet Rosella Jones, beloved mother and grandmother to her family, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022; she was 88 years old.

Janet was raised in Oneonta, New York, the oldest of two daughters to the late Clifford J. and Ellamae (Fountain) Harrer. She graduated from Oneonta H.S. in 1951 and in 1955, earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hartwick College. It was here, on her first day of freshman year, that she met her future husband, John “Jack” C. Jones. In 1956 they were married. Janet and Jack would share 64 years together, separated by Jack’s death on July 18, 2021.

In her earlier years Janet worked as a phlebotomist. In the late 1950s the couple moved to Massachusetts where they started their family. Janet studied at Framingham State College and was awarded her Master’s in Elementary Education. She worked for over 25 years for the Hudson Public School District where she was a beloved and well respected first grade teacher. In retirement, Janet and Jack enjoyed travel, especially cruising. Winters were spent at their home in Punta Gorda, Florida, and then Janet loved returning to Southborough where she was closer to her children and grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her three daughters, Heather de Laszlo and her husband Stephen of Rumson, NJ, Holly Evangelista of Shrewsbury, MA, and Heidi Lindsey and her partner Paul Cibelli of Northborough, MA; her six grandchildren, Saragh Soltesz and her husband James, Christian de Laszlo and his wife Brittany, Megan Evangelista, Cathryn Piette and her husband Timothy, Morgan Lindsey, and Dylan Lindsey and his wife Jordan and a great-granddaughter Lucy Soltesz, all of whom she loved so much. Janet also leaves her sister, Beverly Olive of Oneonta, NY.

Respecting Janet’s final wishes, her funeral service was private. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Rural Cemetery, Southborough MA.
