Hudson – With heavy hearts, the Frade family regrets to announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Aureliano Manuel Frade.
Aureliano was born on September 26, 1945, in Ribeira Grande on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. At the age of 24, after completing his Portuguese military service, he immigrated to the U.S. in July of 1969. On December 27, 1969, he married his childhood sweetheart, Isabel Rego, in Toronto, Canada, and then he and his wife decided to return to the U.S to start their family.
Prior to being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Aureliano worked at A. Amorello Construction in Worcester for 22 years, where he was a foreman, however, that did not define his life. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. They would spend time cooking, eating, laughing, swimming, watching sports, playing games, and spending time by the ocean. Above all, he had a life-long passion for gardening. He spent hours tending his large vegetable garden and numerous varieties of flowers; a love he acquired in his youth. He also loved traveling with his beloved wife, especially on cruises and back to their island home.
Aureliano was immersed in his Catholic faith and the local Hudson community. He was the President of St. Michael’s Holy Ghost Society for 24 years until health issues limited his ability to continue and he stepped down. He was devoted to keeping his Portuguese traditions alive, helping to advance the renovations of the Portuguese Community Center and the Pavillion at the Center, and ensuring that cultural events had a place of their own. Even with his limited mobility, he pursued every task with great zeal and passion for life. He was a perfectionist, never quitting until it was done right.
He was a long-time parishioner at St. Michael’s Church in Hudson and helped get many donations for the renovations of the Church. He was also a member of the Portuguese choir at the Church for many years. He was recognized for his lifelong efforts in advocating for the Portuguese community by the Portuguese American Legislative Caucus (PALC) and the Massachusetts House of Representatives with the Portuguese Heritage Award on June 7, 2016.
Aureliano is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Isabel Frade, their three children, Elizabeth Touche and her husband Christian Touche, Dianne Frade, Michael Frade and his wife Tiffany Frade, and his six grandchildren, Sophie Touche, Emilie Touche, Aurelie Touche, Genevieve Wyllie, Evangeline Frade, and Gabriel Frade, as well as his brothers and sister.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Tighe-Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FAMILY REQUESTS ALL GUESTS TO WEAR A MASK AT THE FUNERAL HOME). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for Committal Services.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
