REGION – A pre-Christmas storm dumped up to 2 inches of rain in the area on Friday, Dec. 23.

High winds during and after the storm left some residents in the dark.

Around 7 a.m., the Westborough Fire Department reported that a tree knocked down an electrical wire at West Main Street, between Kay and Adams streets. National Grid is working to fix the damage; expect traffic delays.

Grafton Police also reported a wire down at North Street between Old Westborough and Bicknell roads. North Street reopened earlier this afternoon.

Both National Grid and Eversource said there were scattered outages through the region. Power has since been restored.

Assabet Valley Vocational Technical High School canceled classes for the day.

The region is now dealing with freezing temperatures for Christmas weekend. The forecast for Christmas Eve will be sunny with highs in the 20s; the forecast for Christmas Day and Dec. 26 will be sunny with highs near 30.
