Elizabeth A. MajorAgawam – Elizabeth A. Major, 75, of Agawam, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023 surrounded by her family and friends. Beth was born in Springfield, MA, August 14, 1947 to the late Lloyd W. Major and Dorothy E (Steele) Major of Agawam.

She was a graduate of Agawam High School and received a Bachelor of Music Education from State College at Lowell, MA. Beth taught music for City of Marlborough, MA public schools. During her thirty-five-year teaching career, she taught at Mitchell and Jaworek Elementary Schools and the Marlborough Junior High School which became Marlborough Middle School.

For the majority of Beth’s career, she was as a teacher at the middle school where she also was the school’s Chorus Director, Director of Marlborough’s All-City Chorus and All-City Band. Beth also developed and taught a course in American Music Theater which led to her producing over 15 Broadway musicals with middle school students, a true highlight of her career.

Beth was the first recipient of the Masonic Teacher of the Year Award presented by the United Brethren Masonic Lodge, Marlborough.

Beth is survived by her sister Dorothea (Dory Major) Aull and her husband Elbert H. Aull, III, nephew Elbert H. Aull IV (wife Vanessa Pai-Thompson), niece Malia (Aull) Ohlson (husband Jonathan Ohlson). She loved spending time with her great-niece Abigail Ohlson and great-nephew Alex Ohlson. Especially grateful for love and kindness of friend and aide, Nadejda and lifelong loving friends Cinnie, Mary, Bill and Helen.

Donations  may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 760 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.

Calling hours are Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 from 1-2pm at the First Baptist Church, 760 Main Street, Agawam, followed by a service at 2pm in the church. The burial will follow in Agawam Center Cemetery.

The Curran-Jones Funeral Home of Agawam assisted with arrangements.
