Violet AssadShrewsbury – Violet (Soter) Assad, 88, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away Tuesday, February 28th, 2023, with the family she loved gathered at her side.

Violet was born in Worcester, one of five children of Dimitri and Arthimsia (Nikola) Soter.

She graduated from Worcester Girls Trade and began a career in hairdressing at the former Leo’s Beauty Salon in Worcester, MA, and later as the hairdresser for the Shrewsbury Nursing Home before retiring.

In 1958, Violet married Anthony C. Assad, Jr. and they began a life of love, family and faith raising their children for 46 years before Anthony left her side on April 16, 2004. She continued to live her life as matriarch of her family until recently.

Violet is survived by the two children she cherished, David A. Assad and his wife Carolyn of Sutton and Laurie V. Assad of Worcester: nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Violet joins in heaven her parents, her love Anthony and four siblings, Michael and Samuel Soter, Katherine Argir and Mary Zhunga.

She was a member of St Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church.

A dedicated mother, Violet cherished the care of her family, her home, yard and garden, cooking American, Albanian and Lebanese delicacies on request, the Shrewsbury Senior Center, Senior bus trips both day and overnight.

A kindhearted woman of faith, Violet’s most memorable times will be those spent with her family, and friends, during the holidays and special occasions. “May her memory be eternal”.

The Assad family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of both the Notre Dame Assisted and Long-term Care Facilities for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to Violet.

Funeral services in St Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church and burial next to Anthony in Mt View Cemetery were held privately.

Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to Notre Dame Assisted and long-term care center, 555 Plantation St. Worcester.
