MARLBOROUGH – Construction has begun to convert the former Marshall’s at the Post Road Plaza, 230 East Main St., into a site for Harbor Freight Tools.
The hardware store is slated to open sometime this summer.
According to Director of Corporate Communications Craig Hoffman, this will be the fifth store in Middlesex County, and 22nd overall in Massachusetts.
“We’ve been looking to open a location in Marlborough for a number of years, so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Trey Feiler, senior vice president, real estate and construction, for Harbor Freight Tools. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Marlborough area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”
The store is expected to bring between 25 and 30 new jobs to the community, including sales and logistic supervisors, senior associates, sales associates and seasonal employees.
“We’re excited about this new location because it will be even more convenient for our customers in the Marlborough community,” said Hoffman. “Currently, our closest stores are in Natick, about 9 miles away, or 16 miles to Worcester.”
At 31,500 square feet, the new location will be one of the chain’s largest, said Hoffman, but it will still be smaller than “big box” stores.
“Many of our customers are professional trades workers who want to stop in, find what they need and then head out quickly to their job site or workshop. For other customers, this size makes it easier to browse and find our great deals,” he said.
Harbor Freight Tools carries a selection of tools and accessories, including automotive, air and power tools, storage, outdoor power equipment, generators, welding supplies, shop equipment, hand tools and more.
