William J. FlynnNorthborough – William Joseph Flynn, affectionately known to all as “Bill”, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 years old on February 5, 2024. At the time of his passing, Bill was surrounded by the supportive love of his family.

Bill was born on April 29, 1944, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Warren Joseph Flynn and Marie Priscilla (Haley) Flynn, the youngest of four children. He attended Marlborough High School. While skating with friends at the Lyonhurst Roller Skating Rink in Marlborough, Bill met his future wife, Cheryl A. (Bosselman). It was love at first sight. This was the beginning of a wonderful 58 year marriage together.

Bill was a passionate sports fan who loved playing hockey and football in his younger years, and then following the Boston Bruins and Chicago Bears in his later years. He also enjoyed restoring and customizing old trucks and cars. He was an animal lover, but had a particular soft spot for dogs. During his teenage years, he drove an ice cream truck but he frequently gave away to those in need (including dogs) more than he would earn. Bill was well known amongst friends and family for his jokes, generosity (changing the flat tire on the side of the road for an old lady) and infectious humor. Above all else, his family knew that we could count on him to always be there for us, to protect and to love us, whether fixing our cars, teaching us to swim and skate, or going for ice cream to Uhlman’s in one of the pickups he restored.

In his earlier years, Bill worked for Zecco, Inc. in Northborough. He soon followed his heartfelt passion and concern for the environment which, led him to becoming employed as an environmental specialist and driver for several hazardous waste management companies. For over 40 years Bill would travel up and down the Eastern United States and Canada, his expertise limiting the chance of harmful hazmat situations.

Surviving Bill is his beloved and devoted wife, Cheryl Flynn. She lovingly cared for him for many years as he battled vascular dementia. He is also survived by his daughter, Carol Flynn of Westboro; his son Kevin Flynn of Spencer, his wife Kim and their son Jake; and his daughter Kathleen Henry of Sterling, her husband Jason and their daughters Caitlin and Meghan. Bill also leaves his brother Gerry Flynn and wife Camille of North Andover and their children Mark and Roselle. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Flynn and sister Patricia Flynn.

The family would like to thank The Reservoir Center for Health and Rehabilitation of Marlborough for their excellent care, compassion and kindness during this difficult time for our family.

A time of visitation will be held from 9am-10am on Friday, February 9, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Bill’s funeral will follow at 10am, in the funeral home. Burial will be private.

His family respectfully request memorial donations be directed to the Northborough Professional Firefighters Assoc., POB 103, Northborough, MA 01532.
