Berlin – James L. Wetherell, 57, of Berlin died suddenly at Marlborough Hospital on February 20, 2024. He leaves his longtime companion, Jeanne Kowal with whom he lived in Berlin.

He was born in Claremont, New Hampshire and was raised in Marlborough, the son of the late Lucius Wetherell and Kathleen (Darney) Brahm.

James was a builder for Caira Construction for many years.

He was a gifted artist and skilled craftsman. He enjoyed hiking and the outdoors. He was devoted to his dog Lakota and a lifelong list of furry friends. His lifelong dream was to build and live in a log cabin and he finally fulfilled that dream in 2023 after a tragic fire destroyed the house that he and Jeanne lived in. He took solace in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and was a self-taught guitarist. James was a charismatic soul and took pleasure in making people laugh. He had an avid love of animals and a giving heart.

He leaves four sisters, Brenda L. Fish of Millbury, Barbara Zalneraitis of Michigan, Cindy Brunelle and Sue Grego both of Hudson; two brothers, Butch Wetherell of Bellingham and Larry Wetherell of New Hampshire; many nephews, nieces and cousins and a boatload of friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the log cabin they built in Berlin on Sunday February 25 from 12-3 PM. Following cremation, burial will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.

All are invited to sign his online guestbook at www.collinsfuneral.com.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
