Antonette M. AlwardShrewsbury – Antonette M. (Sciamacco) Alward, 61, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Thursday, March 7th 2024, surrounded by the family she cherished after a long period of health challenges. Antonette joins in heaven the “Love of her life” and husband of 31 years Douglas Alward who passed away in 2020.

Antonette is survived by, two sons, D. Maxwell Alward and Alfred S. Alward, both of Shrewsbury; her mother, Delores (Dulak) Sciamacco; a sister and her best friend, Lucrezia Bonner and her husband Craig of Worcester; a brother Jerome “Jerry” Moynihan of Woonsocket, RI: Nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.   In addition to her husband, and father, a sister, Pauline Bombard predeceased her.

Born and raised in Worcester, Antonette was one of four children of Delores (Dulak) Sciamacco and the late Anthony Sciamacco. She graduated from Burncoat High school and earned her nursing degree from Quinsigamond Community College. Antonette then embarked on a life of caring for, and raising her family, and helping others. She began her career with the St Vincent Hospital, Reliant Medical and presently with the Redi-Med facility on Shrewsbury Street. A total of 35 years for the Reliant Medical Corporation.

A dedicated wife, mother, daughter, and sister, Antonette dedicated her life to caring for others.  She took immense pride in her family and those that needed care recovering. She cherished her sons, found extraordinary pride in their success, and attending hockey games with Doug to watch them. Antonette enjoyed the New England patriots, travel, notably road trips to Maine, lighthouses, cooking and entertaining. Along with the love for her family, Antonette took considerable pride in her home and yard.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, March 12, from 4 pm until 7 pm at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 13th at 11 am in the funeral home, followed by a procession to Notre Dame Cemetery where she will be buried next to Doug.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The St. Jude’s Children’s research hospital, 501 St Jude Way, Memphis, TN.
