Shrewsbury – On a chilly but gorgeous autumn afternoon, Mia Blakeley, a sixth-grade student at the Sherwood Middle School, held a Costume Cleanup Oct. 30 at Jordan Pond as part of her platform for winning the Miss Shrewsbury Sweetheart Pageant last March.
The Shrewsbury pre-teen is passionate about water and the affect of pollution on wildlife, and wanted to bring awareness to community about the importance of clean water. In addition to picking up trash, spring bulbs were also planted. Mia was joined by her mother Marcia and lifelong Shrewsbury resident Edward Rezuke, who came out to help in the cleanup efforts. Rezuke is known for fishing the pond on a daily basis and as such, his “costume” was quite appropriate.
