Marlborough – The Marlborough High School varsity cheerleaders recently were recognized for their fund-raising efforts to help those fighting cancer.
On Sept. 9, the cheerleaders participated in the 23rd annual Jimmy Fund Walk in Boston, raising $1,529 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Center for Neuro-Oncology to further its clinical research. The cheerleaders met at Dana-Farber and joined 8,700 other walkers for the three-mile trek to Copley Square alongside patients and families, providing support and encouragement along the way.
“Their donation as well as their time, commitment and volunteerism are both commendable and invaluable to our efforts in finding a cure for this disease,” wrote Dr. Patrick Wen, director of the Center for Neuro-Oncology and a professor at Harvard Medical School. “We are greatly appreciative to them for all they did.”
