Martha L. MaherMarlborough – Martha L. (Rowe) Maher, 78, a lifelong resident of Marlborough died on July 31, 2021, after a year of declining health, at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Northborough, surrounded by her loving family.

Martha was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late, John and Mildred (Urquhart) Rowe. She attended local Schools, graduating from St. Anne Academy in 1961.

As a young woman, Martha was employed at Woolworth’s Five & Dime on Main St. After marrying her husband, Charlie and getting her three children through school, she worked at Cumberland Farms for many years as well as working the local election polls, first as an inspector and later as clerk, primarily Ward 3 Precinct 1. She loved children and babysitting, crochet, and working on crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles “Charlie” L. Maher of Marlborough; her two sons, Paul J. Maher and his wife Joan (Collins) of Northborough and Kevin W. Maher of Oxford; a sister, Mary E. Rowe of Marlborough; two brothers, John P. Rowe Jr. and his wife Gaye of Marlborough and J. Peter Rowe of Southborough; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Martha was predeceased by a son, Michael L. Maher, in 2013 and a sister-in-law, Gail V. (Baker) Rowe, in 2010.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, from 6-8 p.m., in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Martha’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 100 North Pkwy, Worcester, MA 01605.
