Hazel BemisNorthborough – Hazel Bemis, 91 – loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend – died peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022. Born in Brockton, MA, Hazel was the only child of her parents Clarence and Alice.

After graduating from Boston University Hazel worked for the State Department and was stationed abroad. She had great stories and fond memories of her travels through Libya and Egypt during that time.

Hazel met her husband Dick on a blind date; they married in 1956 after a brief courtship and settled in Marlborough. Hazel enjoyed raising her family; she was actively involved with her kids’ activities and rarely missed a sporting event. She enjoyed meeting new people and made friends easily.

Hazel and Dick enjoyed camping; they owned a motor home for several years and were active members of the Algonquin Campers with their friends in Marlborough. For more than 20 years they spent summers in Northborough and winters in their park model in Haines City, Florida, where they had great friends and enjoyed playing bocce, dominos and cards, and gathering for community events and celebrations.

Hazel and Dick enjoyed travel; their memorable trips included visits to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe, as well as several Caribbean cruises. She loved spending time with her family and together they enjoyed reunions in Bermuda, Mexico, and most recently in Newport, Rhode Island. They enjoyed 63 happy years together.

Hazel is survived by her son David and wife Theresa of Weldon Springs, Missouri; daughter Sandra and husband Doug of Maynard; son Scott and wife Kathleen of Hoschton, Georgia; and son Steve and wife Michelle of Northborough. Her ten grandchildren – Hunter, Jonathan, Colton, Benjamin, Kevin, Audrey, Garrison, Jeremy, Kara and Rachel, and five great grandchildren – Harper and Kellen, Brayden and Lukas, and Jonah brought her much joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Arrangements have been under the care of Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough.
