MARLBOROUGH – Fire departments were called to a brush fire on the Sudbury Reservoir off Farm Road.
The Marlborough Fire Department responded to the fire at 10:24 a.m. this morning.
“The fire was likely caused due to an unattended or poorly extinguished campfire,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Residents are asked not to burn with our current extreme drought conditions. Several serious brush fires continue to burn across our State.”
When crews first arrived, they had to hike about two miles to locate the fire, according to the Marlborough Fire Department.
Once it was located, the firefighters traveled to the scene by boat from the 9/11 Memorial Field in Southborough. Southborough and Sudbury fire departments used their boats to shuttle firefighters to the scene.
After about five hours at the scene working to put out the fire, the firemen left the scene
at around 3:20 p.m. Marlborough officials said that about two acres were burned.
The Department of Conservation and Recreation assisted, and the Hudson Fire Department provided station coverage for the Marlborough Fire Department during the fire.
This is the second brush fire that occurred in Marlborough in the past week.
Last weekend, the Marlborough Fire Department battled a brush fire in the Desert Conservation Area that burned 25 acres.
