Hudson – A preview of pleasant summer weather June 7 helped the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce draw lots of visitors to its 28th annual Hudson Community Fest on South Street and nearby downtown locations. Festivities included live entertainment at the Cellucci Park gazebo and the Avidia Stage, vendors, refreshments and nonprofit organization info booths. Kids were happy that it was opening day of the Splash Pad.
The Highland City Striders began the festival with over 320 runners and walkers in the Spirit of Hudson 6K Race and 1.5-Mile Walk to benefit the Hudson-Concord Elks Scholarship Fund. Placing first overall was Jacob LeBlanc of Hudson in 20:28. First-place female was Amanda Wright of Acton in 23:25. Afterward, children ages 2 to 6 ran the approximately 26.2-yard Mighty Marathon.
Concurrently, the Hudson Rotary Club held its 24rd annual Lucky Duck Race, selling a record-breaking 2,952 tickets to support its scholarship fund and community projects. Hudson residents Ray Leger won $1,500 and Heidi Curran received $1,000. Three more winners got cash prizes totaling $700.
