Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Cape Cod – Robert Fields, 89, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at his home after a short period of failing health. He was born in Marlborough, the son of the late Eugene and Flora (Pelletier) Fields, and lived in Boston most of his adult life before retiring and moving to Cape Cod in 2000.

Mr. Fields was a graduate of Marlborough High School, class of 1944. He proudly served as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri during WWII. He was aboard the vessel for the signing of the surrender of Japan to the United States.

Mr. Fields attended Vesper George Art School in Boston and was employed by the former Shawmut National Bank for many years, rising to the position of Purchasing Director for the bank. After his retirement, he worked as a consultant for several other Boston area banks.

He is survived by two nieces, Kathleen Messina and Gene LaFleur, both of Hudson. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Fields, and a sister, Madeline Fields.

His funeral will be held Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home will be held May 11, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
