Northborough – The Board of Selectmen Nov. 23 confirmed the appointment of Christopher Buzzell as the town’s newest police officer.
Buzzell is a 2010 graduate of Algonquin Regional High School and a 2014 graduate of Westfield State University, where he studied criminal justice.
In recommending Buzzell, Police Chief Mark Leahy noted that the new officer also put himself through the Western Massachusetts Regional Police Academy last summer and went through a selection process that included multiple interviews, a background investigation and medical screenings.
“He came as close as anyone ever has to breezing through the process,” Leahy said.
In other business, selectmen heard from Fire Captain Rob Theve that the department is currently running its annual Toys for Tots collection drive. 16. Toys can be dropped off at the fire or police stations or at town hall through Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Theve said he hopes this year’s drive will match or exceed last year’s, which collected and distributed more than 700 toys for needy children.
