Five St. John's students accepted into military academies

Shrewsbury – Each year thousands of young men and women apply to one of the five United States military academies – the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Of those thousands, only 11 to 17 percent meet the requirements in order to be accepted. This year, five young men in the St. John's High School class of 2013 have joined that elite group.

Algonquin Dramahawks to perform “The Odd Couple”

Northborough/Southborough - Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) thespians will be presenting Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple," a comedy in three acts, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 20, 21 and 22, at 7 p.m. each night. The show, which made its premiere on Broadway in 1965, was revived in a 1968 film as well as a 1970s television series. The plot revolves around two mismatched roommates: the fastidious, insufferably uptight and incredibly neat photographer, Felix Ungar, and the disheveled, easygoing and incredibly messy sportswriter, Oscar Madison.

The Feinstein Foundation, Northborough schools fight hunger

For 14 years, former educator and philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein has divided $1 million among food pantries and agencies nationwide to raise awareness and funding for hunger. Local Destination Imagination team and Shrewsbury library partner with winning results

Shrewsbury - What does an elementary student working on an important project do to create a shrunken giant? She contacts the Shrewsbury Public Library to use their state-of-the-art 3D printer. Recently, a student on an elementary-level Destination Imagination (DI) team was in need of a way to illustrate a plot point in the performance component at a recent competition. She needed to show her character, a giant, who drinks a magic shrinking potion during the team's performance skit, in shrunken form.

Algonquin students showcase T-Hawk pride in viral video

Northborough/Southborough - At the suggestion of teacher Patricia Riley, Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) seniors Nic Zanghi, Giles Ober and Sam Huddart created a "lip dub" video for their senior marketing research project. Titled "The Algonquin Lip Dub," the Youtube sensation, which garnered more than 7,000 hits in 12 hours, was created to promote school spirit and showcase the camaraderie of the student body at "The Gonk."
