Hudson – As Hudson updates its master plan for the first time since 1964, about 45 residents offered input at the third public forum Jan. 14 at the Town Hall auditorium. The topics discussed were open space and recreation, and historic and cultural preservation.

Collecting unwanted bicycles for Africa

Hudson – Unwanted bicycles can be put to good use, and St. Michael Parish is making it easy through January for anyone in Hudson and the surrounding communities. A volunteer will pick up old or new bicycles, most of which will be shipped to Ghana, Africa, where many people have no access to other transportation. The pick-up drive is also collecting sewing machines, which can help create work for poverty-stricken women and girls in Ghana.

Hudson AMVETS remember hundreds with holiday meals

Hudson – The Hudson AMVETS Post 208 made special deliveries Dec. 25. Volunteers prepared and distributed 500 hot dinners as part of its 23rd annual "Home Alone for the Holidays." That was after they delivered 526 meals on Thanksgiving. For each holiday, dinners went to 11 communities including Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough and Southborough. The longtime tradition began in 1989 when a small group of veterans gathered for a holiday, explained Commander Bill Rivers, who has organized the project since 1996.

A stranger's kindness helps keeps the Christmas spirit alive in Hudson

Hudson – It is easy to get jaded by the holidays each year, especially when stores barely get the Halloween candy off the shelves before the Christmas items take their place. But every so often, there is a story that reminds you it doesn's really matter what you celebrate this time of year whether it is Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, the winter solstice or just winter. Because deep down, we know material items don's really matter. It's the people in our lives that are important. Recently members of the Hudson Lodge of Elks 959 shared a story that stresses that point. It seems like an old-fashioned Hollywood tale but Elks member Angela Govatsos ensures that it is 100 percent true.
