Marlborough completes third summer youth jobs program

0
Marlborough – For the third summer, the city of Marlborough in conjunction with Partnerships for a Skilled Workforce (PSW) offered a six-week youth jobs program for residents ages 16 to 19. This summer, 19 students entering 11th or 12th grade worked the part-time jobs. Those students and their employers gathered Aug. 14 for a luncheon at Whitcomb Middle School. They were welcomed by Kelley French, director of the Young Adult Employment Initiative at PSW.

City, contractor agree to uneasy truce – for now

0
Marlborough – Both sides in an ongoing dispute between the city and the contractor WeCare Environmental LLC have claimed victory after a federal court ruled the city must allow the contractor to reopen a composting facility located near the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant. WeCare has four years left on a 20-year contract to process the city's residential trash and sewage sludge, although it does not cover waste from the Marlborough Public Schools. The city filed a lawsuit against the contractor in 2013 claiming WeCare violated environmental laws and allowed putrid odors to drift into a nearby neighborhood.
