National Assisted Living Week observed locally with homemade happiness

Applefest fireworks” parking is finalized

Northborough – One of the best-loved traditions of Applefest, the fireworks celebration, will be held Saturday evening, Sept. 21 at Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS). The show will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. and is provided by New Hampshire-based company, Atlas Fireworks. Prior to the fireworks, a BBQ and Concert will be held on the school grounds. A variety of foods will be available for purchase by the Knights of Columbus and Northboro Babe Ruth League. Other attractions that will be available for families to enjoy include moonwalks, obstacle course, soccer for kids, shoot ?a puck hockey, face painting, pony rides, and the ARHS Robotics show. (Some events will charge a nominal fee.)

Applefest Street Fair to be held Sat., Sept. 21

Northborough - Nearly 100 vendors are expected to participate in the annual Applefest Street Fair Saturday, Sept. 21. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) parking lot. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Northborough. Last year approximately 5,000 people came to enjoy the event, Skip Doyle, the committee chair, said. "We are expecting another great turnout this year," he said. "In addition to many of the vendors we have had in the past, we have several new craft vendors this year. There will be a whole mix of types."

Taste of Northborough to return to Applefest

Northborough – After a hiatus of several years, the popular event, A Taste of Northborough, is returning to the town's Applefest celebration. The event, sponsored by the Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) Boosters Club will be held in the school's cafeteria Sunday, Sept. 22, from 2-4 p.m. Local restaurants, stores and farm stands will be offering guests the opportunity to try out some of their fare.

It included information about An Act Relative to Bullying in Schools, which was passed by the state legislature that spring. Northborough – The Northborough Police Department released this statement Sept. 6: On 8/26/13, Northborough Police responded to the Peaslee Elementary School for the report of a larceny. It was reported by the staff that fourteen brand new laptops had been stolen from the school's computer lab. The laptops had recently been delivered to the school and were still in the original boxes.

Northborough optometrist to retire; follows vision for his life

Northborough - Dr. Richard Martino, or "Dr. Dick" as his patients affectionately address him, will retire from his optometric practice Sept. 15 after 38 years. Martino, who is the chaplain for the Northborough Fire Department and assistant campus minister at Assumption College, has decided to pursue an opportunity for full-time ministry in the church.

Parade and fireworks to return to Northborough's Applefest celebration

Northborough – Last year two of the beloved traditions of Northborough's Applefest celebration – the parade and the Saturday night fireworks - were cancelled. The parade was cancelled outright due to the downtown road renovations. The fireworks fell victim to a scourge of West Nile Virus carrying mosquitoes that plagued the region. But this year, organizers are happy to announce, both traditions are once again scheduled to return.
